History of the Durban Poison strain
The Durban Poison strain was discovered in South Africa by Ed Rosenthal back in the 70’s and brought to the USA where the full potential of the strain was discovered. It was in the USA where the lineage really come to its own after the strain was backcrossed and stabilized by undergoing a selective breeding process.
From the USA, the Durban Poison seeds were shipped to Amsterdam. Here, the genetics were refined to flower outdoors in the much shorter Dutch summers which caused the strain to become very popular. No only in the Netherlands but throughout Europe, Canada, Australia and the UK.
Growing with our Durban Poison seeds
Our feminized Durban Poison seeds are fairly easy to grow and therefore a suitable choice for both beginners and advanced growers.
As you can expect from a sativa, the plant feels very comfortable when grown outdoors in places where it has all the freedom to grow considerably. The strain enjoys a sunny and warm climate, but as mentioned above, also achieves great results in colder climates.
Please note that this sativa can become extremely tall. Think of heights that go up to 250 cm and even more. The plant develops strong and vigorous side branches which makes the plant very suitable for windy areas.
Being suitable for an outdoor grow doesn’t mean you can’t grow the strain indoors, but applying training techniques such as scrOG will be necessary to control the plant height. In addition, the Durban Poison strain is very well suited for hydroponic.
Flowering time
Unlike most other sativa’s, the Durban Poison strain features a relatively short flowering time of just 7 – 9 weeks. During flowering, stunning dark and resinous buds appear.
Harvest and yield
Outdoor growers preferably harvest their strain by the end of September or at the beginning of October where yields can be as large as 700 grams per m2. Experienced indoor growers achieve in most cases average yields of 400 to 500 grams per m2.
Taste and smell
The taste of this weed will remind you of pine trees. Earthy, but certainly spicy, sweet and citrus like. Durban poison has a strong scent that is easy to recognize because of its sharp, earthy, spicy and sweet undertones.
What is the effect of Durban Poison weed?
